Breaking Down Walls

We are all professional builders, whether we have a paycheck to prove it or not! We have been taught since birth how to build a wall! A wall of defense, a wall of protection, a wall of seclusion,  a wall of division, a wall of illusion, a wall of deception……the walls we build and their purposes are endless!!!
I remember as a child feeling uncomfortable around anyone except my family. When I walked into a room with people I did not know, the walls came up! Now understand, we can allow for certain walls to remain. I would not recommend being pals with someone who can do us mental, physical or spiritual harm! But in reality those people or situations are few and far between. So many times we use one bad experience as crutch to close the door on potential divine moments with people.suspicious
I used to be PLAGUED with MANY walls!!!  For me it was the wall of SELF PROTECTION!!!!!! I had been mistreated by people I trusted: church leaders, family members, close friends, co-workers, and the like! I really had a great defense as to why it was all right to act the way I did!
One day, the Lord clearly showed me that I had built a pretty solid wall and it was because of my inability to really love! Shocked with much disbelief, I continued for another week pleading my case to him on how I was o.k.! He spoke up again and told me that I did NOT know how to love. Shocked for a second time, I decided to find out about the love, He was talking about. This is what I found: 1 Corinthians 13:4 LOVE keeps no record of wrongs!!!
I was shocked!!! I was convicted! I was wrong!!! I had been wrong my whole life! What I realized at that moment was, although I did many wonderful things, according to 1 Corinthians, I did not properly understand LOVE! Unfortunately, if we are not acting like the LOVE in 1 Corinthians 13, we are NOT loving at ALL! Love is an accumulation of all of the attributes. We can’t pick and choose the ones we like the best and believe that we are o.k. :-( !
We build walls around us for many reasons, maybe we love toast and our best friend is a gluten free advocate! In all walks of life, in every venue we have opinions. Why do we allow our opinions to separate us from the people in our lives?!

Here is what the word opinion means: a belief or judgment that rests on grounds insufficient to produce complete certainty!

This makes no logical sense, to hold something that has no certainty, higher in value than a person designed by God!
The bible says to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Another way to say it might be; if Jesus doesn't agree with it, why do we? The best way to start breaking down the walls that are holding us as a prisoner, is know Jesus, know His word, and make His word be the truth by which we live.
I stopped having an opinion a long time ago. When it comes to walls I want them all removed and out of my life! I was recently asked by a person how I could cope with a particular subject? I simply said,” I am learning to make different choices :-) . When walls come down we have the ability to make different choices! When the walls are up our choices are limited by the walls!
I just reread about Joshua, Israel and what happened at Jericho. You see the Israelite's lacked in faith, they doubted the goodness of God. They did not think God could remove the obstacles that they faced. What they faced was a WALL! A wall to keep people out and a wall to keep people in. What happened?? God in His extreme goodness gave Joshua a plan to destroy the wall in their lives, so that they could enter their promised land. He has a plan for you too, so that you can enter into your promised land! :-) !
We are all a work in progress! That is how I have decided to view myself and others! I believe in you! I believe that you want relationships made right in your life! I believe you want your relationship restored with Jesus! Life begins the day we get our relationship restored to Jesus! That is what Joshua had to do! When we choose to restore our relationship to our heavenly father, through a relationship with His son Jesus, by coming clean with our own lack of faith and rebellion, then we can expect that the other walls in our life will come down too!
We need to see the bigger picture! We all need to embrace the reason we are here in the first place! We are here to advance God’s Kingdom! How can we do that when we have placed so many walls around us that we don’t allow people into our lives? Or if we do, we keep them so far away from us, we have no effect on them at all. I want to be a positive influence on everyone I meet! Face it, today you met people, you made an impression on them. What will they remember most about you? Let’s Break Down Walls together and become the wonderful, loving people we were created to be :-) !
Thank you Jesus for breaking down the walls that kept us from God, by dyeing for us! You are the great Wall Breaker!! Break down the walls that we have placed in our lives! Break down the walls in our hearts! Show us how to keep the walls broken down!! We want to be free from what holds us captive! Thank you for your freedom, amen!
